Major Shift in Marvel Comics Could Simplify Access to 35,000 Stories

The Marvel comics library is set to launch a brand-new comics app, thanks to Webtoon, the digital comics platform known for popular series like The Witcher, Critical Role, and Overwatch. This new app, simply called the Marvel Comics app, will house over 35,000 digital comics from Marvel’s extensive collection, including titles from Star Wars and 20th Century Studios, such as Aliens, Predator, and Planet of the Apes. It will replace the current Marvel Unlimited app, which is being phased out.

In addition to Marvel content, the app will also feature works from other brands under the Walt Disney Company umbrella, including offerings from Pixar and Disney Animation.

The announcement was made on Monday, with plans to launch the Marvel Comics app on November 16.

Webtoon promises a “faster, more intuitive, and personalized reading experience, all in one convenient subscription” with this new app. Subscriptions will start at $9.99 per month or $69.99 per year, aligning closely with the existing Marvel Comics subscription service, Marvel Unlimited.

In a recent announcement, Webtoon and Marvel detailed the app’s features. The Marvel Comics app will be accessible on mobile devices and web browsers, offering personalized discovery tools such as a dynamic cover-scroll interface, tailored recommendations, and an enhanced smart panel feature for seamless reading on mobile. A Pull List feature will highlight new issues from the series, characters, and creators that users follow, allowing readers to browse upcoming releases and manually add issues to their Pull List.

Current subscribers of the Marvel Unlimited service will have the option to transfer their reading history to the new Marvel Comics app.

A standard subscription to the Marvel Comics app is priced at $9.99 per month or $69.99 per year, granting access to new issues three months after their print release. The Ultimate tier is available for $12.49 per month or $99.99 per year, providing new issues as soon as one month after print. There’s also a limited-time Founder Member pricing at $59.99 for the first year of the Ultimate annual plan, which will be available for pre-registration starting Monday and on-site at New York Comic Con 2026.
