Major Update for Sony’s AI Graphics Upscaling on PS5 Pro Games Arrives Tonight

Sony’s enhanced PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology is making its way to a variety of titles on the PS5 Pro, including Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Silent Hill 2, and others. A recent test by a tech outlet revealed that this new upscaling solution provides the significant upgrade gamers have been anticipating from the PS5 Pro. Issues like shimmering, flickering, and other visual artifacts have been resolved, resulting in sharper and more stable graphics during gameplay.

This marks the first significant advancement from the collaboration between AMD and Sony’s Project Amethyst, which focuses on enhancing the rendering of games at lower resolutions. By utilizing AI trained on graphics to analyze each frame and upscale it, the upgraded PSSR delivers better quality without compromising frame rates. The new PSSR is part of the latest PS5 system software update, set to roll out in phases starting March 17th at 1 AM ET. Sony also mentioned that these enhancements will benefit AMD’s upcoming FSR update.

The revamped PSSR, akin to AMD’s AI-driven FSR 4 upscaling technology for PCs, was initially announced last year and first showcased with Resident Evil Requiem in February. In addition to the titles already mentioned, many more will support PSSR on the PS5 Pro once the software update is live, including:

* Alan Wake 2
* Control
* Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
* Nioh 3
* Monster Hunter Wilds
* Dragon’s Dogma 2

Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Cyberpunk 2077 are also set to receive patches with the PSSR update in the coming weeks, while Crimson Desert will implement the technology upon its launch on March 19th. Players will have the option to toggle the updated tech on or off for PS5 Pro games that already support PSSR, although results may vary depending on the title.
