Marathon fans are excited about the decaying bodies in the extraction shooter, but opinions are divided on the invisibility feature: “Bungie, please rethink this.”

Bungie has shared some intriguing details about the upcoming Marathon, stirring excitement among potential players. A recent behind-the-scenes look at this FPS has revealed that looted corpses will decay over time, adding a unique environmental element to the gameplay. Additionally, the introduction of invisibility perks is sparking lively discussions within the community.

In the documentary, it’s highlighted that “the body slowly decays over time as you loot it.” This means that if you encounter a fresh body brimming with loot, the killer is likely still in the vicinity. Conversely, a decayed body with minimal loot indicates it was taken out some time ago, reducing immediate danger. This mechanic is generating buzz about how it will enhance the game’s atmosphere.

“That is a cool concept to tense the game to feel like a horror game,” one fan commented on Twitter. “That is actually a really nice change, and I do hope other extraction shooters, both present and future, take that mechanic,” another user added.

On a more divisive note, the invisibility feature tied to certain weapon modifications has players split. Each kill with these weapons grants a brief period of invisibility, leading to mixed opinions on its impact on the game’s meta.

“The ability to turn invisible in a game where you lose everything upon death should just not be a thing,” expressed a popular content creator on Twitter. “Bungie, please reconsider this.”

Others echoed similar sentiments. “This is one of those ideas that sounds good on paper, but after several sessions of playing, I bet it feels absolutely terrible,” remarked a streamer. “It’s bad enough in The Finals and still annoying lol. In an extraction shooter? Hell no,” another user chimed in.

Marathon marks Bungie’s first entirely new title since Destiny 2 launched in 2017. This science fiction FPS is set to be an extraction shooter, and players will get to experience these features when the game releases in March 2026.
