Bungie’s upcoming shooter, Marathon, has faced its share of challenges, including indefinite delays and a cautious community, but it’s still on track to make a splash during tonight’s PlayStation State of Play.
Marathon has had a rocky road, marked by controversies like the stolen art incident and ongoing questions about its release date. However, reports from Sony suggest that Bungie is feeling optimistic after playtests highlighted both strengths and areas for improvement. Fans will finally get a glimpse of the game, as developers have confirmed its presence at today’s State of Play.
In a recent Discord message, the team expressed their excitement: “Hey everyone! We’re thrilled to announce our participation in the PlayStation State of Play tomorrow, February 12, starting at 2 pm PT! Join us for the stream and share in the excitement for Marathon.” But that’s not all—after the show, there will be a gameplay livestream featuring special guests and game director Joe Ziegler, kicking off around 3 pm PT.
The developers also addressed rumors circulating in the community: “We’ve seen speculation about a surprise preview weekend drop. That’s not happening this weekend—we’ll announce the dates in advance so you can plan accordingly.” While no specific dates have been revealed yet, there’s a good chance we might hear them during tonight’s showcase.
As expected, fans have been buzzing with theories on the server following Bungie’s announcement. One user speculated, “Imagine they just unlock the playtest after the State of Play.” Another chimed in, “We’re getting a new trailer at State of Play.” Many are simply “wondering” what the developers will unveil later today—and honestly, so am I. Here’s hoping for an incredible showcase!
