While the specs don’t specify a target frame rate or resolution, most decent gaming rigs should handle Marathon quite well. The minimum requirements are reasonable enough that even players with older or less powerful systems should be able to enjoy the game on lower settings. However, details regarding the required storage space for installation are still pending and will likely be revealed closer to launch.
Marathon’s development has faced its share of challenges. Initially slated for a September 23, 2025 release, the launch was pushed back due to negative feedback from the alpha playtest. The game also dealt with a controversy involving stolen art, which has since been resolved, and recently saw its art director depart just months before the release.
Additionally, Marathon will be entering a competitive landscape, going head-to-head with the popular extraction shooter Arc Raiders, which has seen significant success since its launch last October. As part of Sony’s ambitious foray into live service games, Marathon has drawn comparisons to Concord, another live-service title that infamously shut down just two weeks after its debut. However, Marathon appears to be faring better at this stage, having made its mark in Steam’s top 10 best sellers list on its first day of presales, a feat Concord never achieved.
