Marathon’s latest update turns its top sponsored kit into a weekly free reward.

After hitting Runner rank 25 in Marathon, players gain access to the raid-like Cryo Archive experience. To ease your initial run, the game provides a free Cryo Archive Sponsored Kit packed with blue-rarity gear. After a particularly frustrating attempt where I lost gear worth at least 3,000 credits, I decided to give the sponsored kit a shot—only to realize I had mistakenly used it on Perimeter. What followed was one of my best runs ever. Now, I’m thrilled to discover that with the latest update, I can claim a free Cryo Archive Sponsored Kit every week.

The recent update 1.0.6.2 was announced, highlighting that “one free Cryo Archive Sponsored Kit can now be claimed each week.” The rest of the patch mainly focuses on quality-of-life enhancements and bug fixes, along with some minor adjustments to the WSTR Combat Shotgun.

The Cryo Archive Sponsored Kit debuted with the launch of Cryo Archive on March 19 as a one-time kit available from the Armory. It was described as “a bundle of blue-tier gear specifically tuned to get you through an early Cryo Archive run without risking your favorite items on your first attempt.”

Each kit contains gear worth 5,000 credits, featuring a mix of powerful heals and even stronger weapons—explaining my unexpected success during that match. If you’re like me, you probably approach most runs with a loadout of around 2,500 credits, wary of losing it all. On that occasion, my two squadmates came equipped with standard sponsored kits. Together, we took down three enemy squads, completed at least one quest, and made it to the map’s final exfil with mere seconds to spare—an epic match I still reminisce about with my gaming friends.

Now, you can experience a match like this weekly. For those who may have stepped back from Marathon’s often punishing difficulty, this is a perfect reason to jump back in for at least one match where you’ll be powerful enough to likely exfil successfully and then dive right back in for another round.
