Despite mixed reviews and divided fan reactions, Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights is projected to debut with $70 million at the global box office, nearing its $80 million budget.
The film is set to premiere in 18,000 theaters worldwide. Netflix initially proposed a $150 million budget, but Fennell ultimately opted for Warner Bros, which will soon be under Netflix’s umbrella. The film features Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw, who, as the classic Emily Brontë tale unfolds, falls for an orphan named Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi). The cast also includes Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, Martin Clunes, and Ewan Mitchell.
As of now, Wuthering Heights holds a 72% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience score is still pending. Critics have highlighted the chemistry between Robbie and Elordi, but opinions vary on whether the film is a true adaptation—something Fennell has playfully acknowledged, as much of the film’s marketing presents the title with cheeky quotation marks.
The earliest known live-action adaptation of the novel dates back to 1920, with the 1939 version starring Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon becoming a classic. Director Andrea Arnold’s take on the story was released in 2011, featuring Kaya Scodelario as Catherine and James Howson as Heathcliff.
Wuthering Heights is set to hit theaters on February 13, 2026. For more, explore our list of the most anticipated upcoming movies in 2026 and beyond, or check out our movie release dates.
