Markiplier’s latest venture: Encouraging fans to purchase DVDs.

It’s an exciting time for Markiplier. The YouTuber is riding high on the success of his self-funded horror film, Iron Lung, which has raked in nearly $18 million at the box office from a budget of under $3 million. With fans showing up in droves to theaters despite the streaming boom, he’s already eyeing his next venture into physical media.

Iron Lung draws inspiration from a 2022 indie game created by David Szymanski. The story follows a convict trapped in a sealed submarine, navigating a blood ocean on a moon in search of resources after much of the universe has vanished. Markiplier, whose real name is Mark Fischbach, not only directed and wrote the film but also stars as the lead character, Simon.

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Markiplier shared that Iron Lung will remain in theaters for another week before shifting focus to its home release. While the film will be available on digital platforms, he confirmed that a physical release is also in the works.

“We’re still getting the wheels turning for you to get it at home,” he mentioned in the video. “The whole translation thing is going to take some doing. I have some plans in the works, but as far as getting it ready and packaged up for a home release with DVD and Blu-ray, that’s on the agenda.”

Despite the decline of the physical media market as audiences increasingly gravitate toward digital content, it’s impressive that Markiplier is committed to releasing Iron Lung on DVD and Blu-ray. He aims to maintain his independence throughout the process, avoiding partnerships with larger companies.

“There are a lot of systems that I need to learn, and I have some guidance to help me through that,” he explained. “But we’re still doing it independently from start to finish. This project will be independent the whole way through, and I think that’s pretty cool.”

As for the timeline for the home release, Markiplier hasn’t provided specifics yet. Given the time it takes to produce physical media, it may be a while before fans can snag their own Iron Lung Blu-ray.

Iron Lung is currently in theaters.
