Marvel expands the Avengers universe with the launch of the new Incursions series.

The next big chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicks off this December with the arrival of Avengers: Doomsday, paving the way for Secret Wars next year. While trailers have teased the epic showdowns awaiting the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and others, it’s clear that these films draw heavily from the 2015 Secret Wars comic event. To build excitement, Marvel is revisiting that era with a new limited series leading up to Doomsday.

Marvel has unveiled a five-issue collection of one-shots titled Incursions. This series revisits the Time Runs Out storyline, which set the stage for Secret Wars by showcasing the catastrophic events known as incursions, where universes within the Marvel multiverse collided. Each incursion featured a clash between two universes, culminating in a final showdown between Marvel’s Primary Universe and the Ultimate Universe.

The first issue, X-Men: Incursions #1, is set to drop on November 18, just a month ahead of Doomsday’s theatrical release. Written by Alex Paknadel and illustrated by Jim Towe, this issue promises an intense battle between two of the most iconic alternate universes in X-Men lore:

Prepare for a clash as the mutant-dominated House of M universe collides with the dystopian world of Days of Future Past! In just eight hours, only one can emerge victorious, or both will face total annihilation! The fate of these universes rests in the hands of Kate Pryde!

Collectors can look forward to some eye-catching variant covers, including one from Secret Wars artist Esad Ribić and a promotional cover for the Incursions series by Ultimates artist Bryan Hitch.

Following X-Men: Incursions #1, the series will continue with Spider-Man: Incursions #1 and Fantastic Four: Incursions #1 in December, leading into X-Men ’92: Incursions #1 and Avengers: Incursions #1 in January of the following year. Marvel hints that these one-shots will explore classic comic eras, alternate timelines, and fan-favorite media adaptations. The Hitch variant cover even features a version of Rogue from the animated series X-Men: Evolution, suggesting that anything is possible in this multiverse saga.
