Marvel Rivals introduces a massive dinosaur, filling a gap left by Overwatch.

KnockMarvel Rivals all you want for borrowing from Overwatch and embracing its cheeky side, but you have to give credit to NetEase Games for introducing dinosaurs from a parallel universe into the hero shooter mix. Season 8 of Marvel Rivals is set to welcome a new Vanguard hero, Devil Dinosaur, as announced recently.

Kicking off on March 15, the new season titled Sins of Alchemax will not only introduce Devil Dinosaur but also feature a fresh Doom Match map, Alchemax Headquarters, along with new accessories, PC storage optimizations, and more. However, the highlight is undoubtedly the new hero, described by the creative director as follows:

“As a Vanguard, Devil Dinosaur embodies raw, primal power, always ready to dominate the battlefield,” says the creative director. “In combat, he leverages his massive size and a forcefield shield to engage enemies head-on, using his primal bites to inflict a continuous bleeding effect. When he breaks through enemy lines, his aggression intensifies. Devil can tear apart vulnerable foes and temporarily clamp his powerful jaws around bleeding enemies, taking them out of the fight with a controlling grip.

“Upon unleashing his Ultimate, Devil Dinosaur transforms into an unstoppable force. He charges forward, trampling all foes in his path, completely dismantling enemy defenses to lead your team to victory.”

The first trailer for Season 8 features Cyclops, the X-Men leader, as he attempts to protect Devil Dinosaur’s partner, Moon Girl, giving us a quick glimpse of Devil responding to the threat against her.

The reveal of Devil Dinosaur coincides cleverly with the release of Marvel Television’s Punisher: One Last Kill, as the game will see Devil Dinosaur teaming up with The Punisher. Specifically, Frank Castle can mount and ride his T. rex companion in one of the newly announced Team-Up moves.

In the Primal Punishment Team-Up move, Punisher hops onto Devil’s back for a ride. While on his dino buddy, Punisher can only use normal attacks (Adjudication and Deliverance) and his Scourge Grenade. To balance this, he gains damage reduction and shares any healing he receives with Devil Dinosaur while riding.

For tank-class players eager to see how Devil Dinosaur shakes up the Marvel Rivals roster, NetEase Games has also released a gameplay video showcasing the dino in action.

Devil Dinosaur was created by Jack “The King” Kirby in 1978 for an unrealized animated series featuring a hominid boy (Moon Boy) and his dinosaur friend from an alternate Earth known as Dinosaur World. After a brief series, Devil Dinosaur (and Moon Boy) made guest appearances in various Marvel comics. In 2016, Marvel launched an ongoing series, Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur, followed by an animated series of the same name in 2023, which ran for two seasons.

Marvel Rivals is available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
