McKenna Grace has reportedly been cast as Daphne Blake in Netflix’s live-action Scooby Doo prequel series, reprising her voice role from the 2020 animated reboot, though the two projects are not directly connected.

Grace is the first actor confirmed for the Netflix series, taking on one of the five main roles. Alongside Daphne, the spirited member of the gang, the other characters in Mystery Inc include the lovable Shaggy, the brainy Velma, the kind-hearted Fred, and of course, the talking dog Scooby Doo.

Known for her role as young Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel and young Sabrina Spellman in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Grace’s involvement is notable, especially since the series is produced by Greg Berlanti, who also produced the new Scooby Doo show.

Recently, she appeared in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 alongside Matthew Lillard, who portrayed Shaggy in the original live-action Scooby Doo movie and its sequel, Scooby Doo: Monsters Unleashed.

Lillard expressed his support for the new casting in early February, stating, “I think that it’s a great way for kids to understand storytelling. It’s often their first introduction to ghost stories, right? It’s about friendship, teamwork, and solving mysteries—usually with a dangerous white man behind a mask. These are important lessons for kids.”

The Netflix prequel series will explore the origins of the Mystery Inc gang, showcasing how they first came together at summer camp. Daphne and Shaggy will lead the group in a mystery involving a young Scooby Doo, who is still a puppy in this iteration. The series is set to consist of 8 episodes.

A release date for the Scooby Doo prequel has yet to be announced. In the meantime, check out the best shows to watch on Netflix right now.
