Marvel Tōkon Datamine Reveals Exciting Yet Disappointing Potential DLC Characters
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls has been out for a week, and players are already diving into the game’s files, hunting for clues about upcoming DLC characters. So far, the only confirmed addition from developer Arc System Works is Phoenix Cyclops, but he’s just one of four new heroes set to join the roster within the first year. As dataminers dig deeper, they’ve uncovered several character names in the game’s files that aren’t part of the initial lineup. Whether these names excite or disappoint fans varies from person to person.
The dataminers have discovered mentions of Doctor Strange, Wasp, Gambit, The Thing, Daredevil, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and Mr. Fantastic in Tōkon’s files. None of these characters are available at launch, and Arc System Works hasn’t confirmed their inclusion yet. If these names are indeed the upcoming DLC characters, it looks like the entire Fantastic Four could be making their way into the game, which makes sense given that their team dynamic is the foundation of Tōkon’s 4v4 gameplay, as highlighted in the story mode. Characters like Strange, Gambit, Wasp, and Daredevil seem more random, but Tōkon does a decent job of bringing together a diverse array of characters from the Marvel universe. What remains uncertain is whether these new characters will form part of the default “teams” in the storyline like the starting roster or if they’ll simply be added to the game without much narrative integration.

Marvel boasts a vast array of characters from its comics, making it impossible to satisfy everyone hoping to see their favorites included. Some players feel that characters like Doctor Strange are overrepresented, while others might argue that Wasp, being less well-known than her partner Ant-Man, is a wasted opportunity. However, Tōkon features many iconic Marvel characters and could benefit from including some lesser-known heroes to avoid relying solely on the big names, especially if the Fantastic Four are set to occupy four DLC slots in the future. It would be great to see some underutilized heroes added to balance things out. For now, it’s unclear whether these characters will be released in a specific order or if some might not appear for years. Fans have noted that Guilty Gear Strive had references to characters that didn’t launch until several seasons later, suggesting that Arc System Works may be laying the groundwork for a long-term plan.
The files also hint at new stages, including Klyntar, Japan, and Sanctum Sanctorum, which seems likely if Doctor Strange is indeed joining the roster.
Regardless of the outcome, there will always be fans disappointed that their favorite heroes aren’t included yet. It’s surprising that Thor isn’t mentioned in the files, considering he’s a staple of the Avengers, though he notably doesn’t appear during the game’s story events.
