Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Unveils Magneto, Carnage, and Green Goblin
The character lineup for ArcSystem Works’ Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is coming together nicely, with three new fighters revealed during the latest State of Play. Joining the previously announced Doctor Doom on his Knights of Doom team are Magneto, Carnage, and Green Goblin.
Magneto, a legendary figure in the fighting game realm thanks to his appearances in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and 3, brings a wealth of ranged attacks to the table. His telekinetic powers allow him to hurl debris at opponents, making him a solid choice for players. His popularity as a villain and his established presence in the genre make him a fan-favorite addition.
Next up is Green Goblin, who was showcased in a thrilling sequence where he pummeled Peter Parker while gliding around the arena. With his quips like “Tricksy, huh?” and his arsenal of bouncing grenades, he appears to be a character that thrives on mobility and setting traps after knocking down his enemies.
Finally, we got a glimpse of Carnage, another iconic Spider-Man foe. The striking visuals from ArcSystem Works were on full display as this red symbiote unleashed chaotic attacks, leaving a trail of destruction. While not officially confirmed, he seems to embody a Berserker-type character, potentially sacrificing health for increased damage output. The trailer concluded with an intense super move, where Carnage unleashed a barrage of blades that obliterated his opponent.
With these announcements, 17 out of the 20 characters have been revealed, leaving only the members of Ghost Rider’s team yet to be disclosed. Speculation suggests that ghostly and gothic heroes and villains, like Blade, could be on the horizon. Players will have the freedom to assemble their own teams of four at launch, but tag fighting games often feature prebuilt teams for narrative depth. Speaking of story, hints have emerged about the plot: The Champion of the Universe threatens to annihilate Earth unless it can present worthy challengers. True to fighting game tradition, this showdown will unfold in a tournament format. With the release date of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls set for August 6, we can expect to learn about the final three playable characters soon.
