Marvel Tōkon Players Unite: The Game’s Least Favorite Character Revealed
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Soul features a diverse cast of characters, but as is often the case, one character tends to be labeled the weakest. Ideally, the difference between the bottom-tier character and the next one up isn’t too vast, but many players feel that Tōkon’s least effective fighter is significantly lagging behind the rest. That character is Danger, the sentient robot representing the Danger Room from the X-Men comics.
Danger is already one of the more niche characters in Tōkon, which might explain her limited usage—many players simply aren’t familiar with her. However, the consensus is that she simply doesn’t measure up to the rest of the roster. Her abilities revolve around orb-like modules that she can place and detonate or teleport to, but her mobility is arguably among the worst in the game. She moves slowly and lacks the ability to run like other characters, and while her special aerial dash can create mixup opportunities, closing the gap often feels risky or requires setup that other characters can bypass more easily.
“Her zoning’s not that great, her air dash sucks, her buttons are whatever,” said fighting game streamer Cloud_805 while ranking the characters. “She does have a good assault assist, the drill that’s very active and advantageous, but she just has to work so hard. […] Dude, this poor character got shot before she even had a chance.”
For casual players, the technical reasons behind Danger’s reputation as a subpar character might seem complex, but the gist is that her intricate setups can be easily overshadowed by other fighters who can achieve results with less effort. Some players even feel she seems “made for a different game.”
“You spend all this time setting up your bullshit for a stray Magneto car to just erase all your work anyway,” a player commented on Reddit. “Yes, I am mad. This character could be so fun if these artificial restrictions were not present. She doesn’t even turn around instantly when doing an air H as you fly over the enemy’s head. She still attacks the other way like a dumbass. Horrible character to play. Holy shit.”
In Tōkon, a character’s effectiveness isn’t solely based on their performance as a primary fighter. Some may rank low on tier lists but shine as assist characters, providing valuable moves to extend combos or capitalize on openings that the active fighter can’t exploit. From this angle, Danger does offer some utility that even her critics acknowledge.
“Tier lists in Tōkon are so odd to me because, yeah, Hulk isn’t that good but he’s an insane team pick for damage. Yeah, Danger isn’t that good but her back assist is so advantageous and you never have to swap into her. Even bad characters have a place on the team,” a player noted.
Marvel Tōkon is still in its early days, so there’s a chance Danger could receive significant buffs or reworks to enhance her competitiveness. For now, she seems to have some value as an assist character alongside stronger fighters. Here’s hoping someone can dethrone Magik as the most dominant character soon, as I could use a break from her sword smacking me around!
