Marvel Unlimited to Cease Operations in 2026

For the last twenty years, Marvel Comics enthusiasts have relied on Marvel Unlimited as their go-to source for accessing the vast library of comic books. However, that chapter is coming to a close, as Marvel has announced plans to phase out the Marvel Unlimited app in December, replacing it with a new offering from a well-known digital comics provider.

Current Marvel Unlimited subscribers will have the opportunity to transfer their existing library and reading history to the new Marvel Comics app, though the transition has sparked some concerns among users. For many, the introduction of the new app is an exciting development.

Marvel will officially “sunset” Marvel Unlimited on December 7, marking the final day for new content to be added. The app will be completely removed by December 28.

Before these dates, Marvel and Webtoon will unveil the new Marvel Comics app on November 16. This revamped app promises access to over 35,000 issues from Marvel’s storied history and has been “rebuilt from the ground up for an even better reading experience.” Existing Marvel Unlimited users will likely appreciate this, as the current app has plenty of room for enhancements.

Subscribers will be able to import their libraries into the new Marvel Comics app once it launches on November 16.

Marvel has clarified that existing payment details from Unlimited will not be shared with Webtoon. Current subscribers will need to initiate a new subscription with Webtoon through the Marvel Comics app. Active Marvel Unlimited subscriptions will qualify for an automated, prorated refund for any unused subscription time around November 16.

Webtoon, the company managing the new Marvel Comics app, is based in South Korea and launched its digital comics reader globally in 2014. Owned by Naver Corporation, Webtoon initially focused on independently created digital comics but has since expanded through various partnerships, including collaborations with Archie Comics, Dark Horse, DC, Marvel, Dropout, and Ubisoft, among others.

In September 2025, the Walt Disney Corporation acquired a 2% stake in Webtoon, with plans to introduce Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, Pixar, and 20th Century Studios comics to the platform. The launch of Webtoon’s Marvel Comics app will mark the completion of the transition from Marvel Unlimited to a dedicated new platform, with plans to add Disney, Pixar, and 20th Century Studios comics content in the months ahead.

A standard subscription to the new Marvel Comics app will cost $9.99 per month or $69.99 annually, with new issues available as soon as three months after their print release. The Ultimate tier is priced at $12.49 per month or $99.99 per year, offering new issues as early as one month after print. A limited-time Founder Member pricing option is available for $59.99 for the first year of the Ultimate annual plan, which can be pre-registered at marvel.webtoon.com and on-site at New York Comic Con 2026.
