Marvel Unveils Enigmatic Latverian Witches in Avengers: Doomsday
Marvel caught fans off guard at San Diego Comic-Con this year by unveiling a new character for Avengers: Doomsday right at their booth. On July 22, attendees noticed the Latverian Witch costume on display, which was intriguing enough on its own, but then something unexpected happened—the costume began to change.
When fans returned to the Marvel booth, which features an extensive collection of costumes from the upcoming Doomsday film, they found the Latverian Witch still on display, but with a twist. The day before, the costume had transformed into a yellow variant, and now it was sporting a striking purple look. With Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Hall H panel scheduled for tomorrow, fans are buzzing about a potential fourth and final outfit change for the Latverian Witch. This shift in colors hints at the possibility of multiple witches, but the big question is: who are they?
Since the first appearance of the Latverian Witch at Comic-Con, fans have been speculating. With no sign of these characters in the Doomsday trailer and only the costumes to go on, theories are running wild, though they remain largely unverified. A couple of prominent ideas have emerged, but they should be viewed more as hopeful speculation than concrete possibilities for the film.
One major theory suggests that the Latverian Witches could be variants of MCU characters that Doctor Doom has enlisted. Various names have been tossed around, with Scarlet Witch being the most notable, especially since she met her end in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Proponents of this theory point out that Scarlet Witch wields magic, and Doom has a history of dabbling in the mystical arts in the comics. That’s about the extent of this theory. Another idea posits that the Witches might somehow be linked to the Infinity Stones, based on the three colors seen so far, which correspond to three of the Infinity Stone colors. Again, this theory lacks substantial backing.
It’s also entirely possible that the Latverian Witches are simply unnamed supporting characters with impressive designs, so temper your expectations regarding any familiar faces hiding behind those masks. Marvel is set to unveil more details about Avengers: Doomsday and the future of the MCU during its Hall H panel on July 25, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. PT.
