Marvel unveils fresh Avengers lineup featuring Spider-Man and Wolverine
Marvel is gearing up for a significant transformation within its most powerful team. Recently, the next Avengers lineup was unveiled, featuring five heroes who will unite following the events of this summer’s Avengers: Armageddon. Captain Marvel, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Spider-Man (Peter Parker), and Wolverine (Logan) will form the new team in November’s Avengers #1. While this announcement has revealed some key players, there are hints that additional characters will join the fray, leaving fans eager for the complete roster.
Traditionally known as “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,” this new version is dubbed “Earth’s Mightiest Survivors,” suggesting that not all familiar faces will emerge unscathed from Avengers: Armageddon. This event series sees some of Marvel’s legendary heroes banding together to confront the Red Hulk (Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross), who has seized control of Doctor Doom’s domain, Latveria.
Written by Chip Zdarsky, with artwork from Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz, Armageddon sets the stage for the upcoming Avengers ongoing series, which Zdarsky will also write, reuniting with artist Marco Checchetto. This duo previously collaborated on one of the standout modern Daredevil runs.
“After the events of Avengers: Armageddon, this lineup is furious and ready to take action,” Zdarsky stated. “Avengers is a title that should drive the Marvel Universe, where major events unfold and surprises are around every corner.”
Details about the plot remain largely under wraps, likely to avoid spoiling too much of the Armageddon event while promoting the new Avengers series. The announcement emphasized that “Earth itself needs to be avenged” and that this Avengers team “assembles to protect a fractured world that has more reasons than ever to distrust them,” indicating that things are about to get intense during the summer’s Armageddon event.
The first issue of Avengers: Armageddon hits shelves on June 10, while the new Avengers ongoing series kicks off in November, with its debut issue set for November 4.
