Mass Effect 5 Begins Search for Lead Developer Amidst BioWare’s Silence on Upcoming RPG

Details about Mass Effect 5 are still limited, but it looks like BioWare is stepping up production by bringing on a new lead developer.

Michael Gamble, the executive producer and project director for Mass Effect 5, took to social media to announce a job opening for a production director. “Hi, I’m hiring a very important senior leadership role,” Gamble tweeted. “They’ll report to me and it’s gonna be awesome.”

The new hire will play a crucial role in ensuring that the entire studio aligns on high-level concepts. Candidates need to have over 10 years of experience in AAA game development and “deep expertise in ARPG and RPG development,” as outlined in the job listing. A genuine passion for the Mass Effect universe is also essential, as this person will be a key leader for the upcoming title. Currently, there are no other job openings listed for BioWare.

Mass Effect 5 is now the sole project in development at the renowned RPG studio, following a long history of multiple projects, likely influenced by the soft launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and the subsequent layoffs.

At the beginning of last year, it was revealed that the next Mass Effect was still in pre-production, five years after its initial teaser trailer, which showed Liara T’Soni returning alongside remnants of the galaxy-threatening Reapers. The only clue about the game’s storyline came from Liara discovering N7 armor. However, it’s still uncertain whether this will be a direct sequel or set far in the future, given that Liara and all Asari can live for centuries.

Original Mass Effect Shepard voice actors have expressed enthusiasm about returning if BioWare decides to bring them back for Mass Effect 5.
