In recent news, Highguardstudio Wildlight has reportedly laid off a significant portion of its staff just weeks after the game’s launch.
Highguard has faced challenges since its announcement at The Game Awards 2025, with reactions to the trailer ranging from confusion to outright rejection of yet another live-service hero shooter. The game launched to mixed reviews and performance issues, and despite several major updates, it appears the journey for Highguard may be nearing a familiar conclusion.
We’re still awaiting an official statement from Wildlight, but on Wednesday, level designer Alex Graner shared on LinkedIn that he and “most of the team at Wildlight” had been let go.
“Unfortunately, along with most of the team at Wildlight, I was laid off today,” Graner stated. “This one really stings as there was a lot of unreleased content I was really looking forward to that I and others designed for Highguard. However, I’m excited for my next adventure. If your team or anyone you know needs an experienced Level Designer, hit me up!”
I had a decent time playing the few matches of Highguard, and it’s always disheartening to hear about layoffs. I’m hoping for some clarity from Wildlight soon and will update this article if I receive any news.
In other news, after 30,000 layoffs and a failed MMO, Amazon has reportedly lost a gaming executive who famously remarked that games “don’t really have acting.”
