MCU Actor Hints at Exciting New Avengers Project
The last time we caught a glimpse of Jeremy Renner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was back in 2021 with the delightful Hawkeye series. With no second season on the horizon, the chances of Renner reprising his role as Clint Barton seem to be fading. However, the actor is now hinting at a new project related to the Avengers.
Recently, Renner shared a photo on social media featuring a collection of The West Coast Avengers comic books. This California-based team made its debut in Marvel Comics in 1984 as a spin-off of the Avengers, who primarily operated out of New York. Hawkeye is one of the founding members, and the roster has included characters like Mockingbird, Wonder Man, Tigra, War Machine, and Vision.
A West Coast Avengers project could bring back several familiar faces from the MCU. Wonder Man made his first appearance in the MCU this year in a well-received series that has since been canceled. Paul Bettany continues to portray Vision in VisionQuest. The latest version of the West Coast Avengers was led by Kate Bishop, the other Hawkeye, played by Hailee Steinfeld, who appeared alongside Renner in 2021. This lineup also featured America Chavez, portrayed by Xochitl Gomez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. With the prospects of a Young Avengers series looking dim, the West Coast Avengers could be a great alternative.
There were talks about a second season of Hawkeye, but those plans fell through for various reasons. A serious accident in 2023 left Renner with multiple broken bones. In 2025, he mentioned that he was offered only half of his season one salary for a potential season two, which he found disrespectful. “We didn’t see eye to eye on that, sadly,” he shared on High Performance. “I still love the character, I’d still love to do it, but I had to defend myself.”
Renner has expressed his willingness to portray Hawkeye in other projects. While many MCU veterans are set to appear in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday, Renner claims he won’t be among them. However, Marvel actors are often tight-lipped about their roles, so fans may not know the full story until the film hits theaters.
