Mecha PvPvE Game Shuts Down After Two Years, But Offline Mode May Offer a Lifeline
Synduality: Echo of Ada was intended to be Bandai Namco’s ambitious entry into a new multimedia franchise, featuring a large-scale online PvPvE extraction-driven open-world mecha experience set in a sci-fi universe that spans anime and other formats. However, with a peak concurrent player count barely exceeding 3,000 on Steam, the 2025 launch hasn’t met the company’s expectations. Despite ongoing support through regular updates, Bandai Namco recently announced that it will shut down the online servers in 2027, just two years post-launch.
While this news may be disheartening for the small community still engaged with the game, the end of online servers doesn’t spell the complete demise of Synduality. Reports indicate that the company plans to introduce an offline PvE mode, allowing players to continue exploring the game’s expansive world and battling against AI opponents. The core gameplay loop remains intact—players will still utilize their mechas to scavenge for resources and confront mutated creatures and rival salvagers. Some players have expressed relief at the prospect of stepping away from PvP, focusing instead on exploration and narrative enjoyment.
A significant aspect of the game is that dying in the open world results in the loss of all collected materials and the mecha in use, creating penalties for players who take risks and leading to frustration when ambushed by other players. In response to the server closure announcement, one player highlighted the time investment required to gather resources, only to be unexpectedly attacked and lose everything, stating, “it takes a lot of time to get back the money and equipment you lose when you are killed.”
The introduction of an offline mode that emphasizes battling large enemies without the threat of overpowering human opponents is something many fans have been eagerly anticipating. This offline version could potentially attract new players to Synduality: Echo of Ada. The game will maintain its online operations until May 2027 before transitioning to the offline format, with all digital currency sales ceasing on December 17 of this year.
