Mega Man Fans Celebrate Big at The Game Awards
Capcom is reviving Mega Man after nearly a decade of silence. The new title, Mega Man: Dual Override, is set to launch in 2027, marking the first mainline entry since 2018’s Mega Man 11.
While details are limited, a teaser trailer for Mega Man: Dual Override has confirmed that the game will stick to its roots as a classic 2D side-scrolling action-platformer, reminiscent of the beloved Mega Man titles. The trailer hints at an exciting adventure, stating, “Mega Man returns in 2027 with a brand-new entry in the classic action platforming series! Override challenges and blast down legions of robots while springboarding across a new array of futuristic frontiers!” It sounds like Mega Man is ready to dive into some classic action.
One intriguing detail from the trailer is a subtle update to Mega Man’s exoskeleton. As he gazes over the city, we see panels on his armor expand to cool his interior, suggesting some new mechanics at play. However, the trailer mainly showcases Mega Man and a few familiar foes, like Mets and Pipis, without any sign of Dr. Light, Dr. Wily, or the Robot Masters. Perhaps more will be revealed at next year’s event.
Mega Man: Dual Override is set to release in 2027, coinciding with Mega Man’s 40th anniversary, and will be available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC via Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
