Meta Unveils New AI Model Poised to Compete in Coding Challenges

After reentering the AI landscape with its first in-house Muse Spark model in April, Meta is now inviting developers to explore a new model that integrates seamlessly with AI coding software via the Meta Model API.

Meta describes Muse Spark 1.1 as a significant upgrade from its predecessor, incorporating developer feedback to enhance its capabilities. This version boasts advanced coding features, including the ability to detect and resolve complex bugs, improved support for end-to-end workflows across various applications, including multi-agent systems, and native multimodal perception that spans images, videos, and documents.

The launch of Muse Spark 1.1 coincides with the introduction of Muse Image, an image generation model that has sparked debate due to its ability to incorporate content from other users’ Instagram accounts. This move is part of Meta’s strategy to validate the substantial investments made to catch up in the AI race and to compete with industry leaders like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, especially following a series of high-profile hires and a company restructuring last year.

The new 1.1 model is now available in Thinking mode through the Meta AI app and website. It can also be accessed via the newly launched Meta Model API, which is currently in public preview for developers in the US. To sweeten the deal, Meta is offering $20 worth of free credits with each new Meta Model API account. Initially, Muse Spark was only available through Meta AI, but it has since expanded to power chatbots on platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp, as well as the latest Meta smart glasses.
