With Animal Crossing moving on, Mewgenics introduces its own version of Mr. Resetti to keep you in check for save scumming.
Mewgenics is no walk in the park. You might be cruising through an epic playthrough, but one misstep can send your run spiraling. Since the game doesn’t save during battles, you might be tempted to save scum for a fresh start. However, the developers anticipated this and have a surprise in store for those who do, reminiscent of Mr. Resetti’s infamous reprimands in Animal Crossing.
When you return to the game, you’ll encounter Steven from Edmund McMillen’s earlier title, Time Fcuk. He’s also made appearances as a boss in The Binding of Isaac and as a bonus level dealer in The End is Nigh. Steven is not pleased and will threaten to crawl out of the screen to take you down, using some colorful language. Fortunately, you can save scum once per run, giving you a free reset in one battle.
The next two times you save scum, he’ll inflict negative effects on your party, making your journey tougher. But it’s the fourth time that really hits home. After quitting during a battle four times, Steven will show up again, this time with a calm demeanor, saying, “Yeah, it’s over, give me the controller…” From that point on, he’ll take control of your cats in every battle. Surprisingly, he’s quite skilled at Mewgenics, and you can continue to save scum as long as he’s not struggling (though he tends to play the battles out the same way each time).
Psst. I’ve put together a guide on save scumming in Mewgenics that will help you use it effectively—just keep it under wraps from Steven!
