Mewgenics Creator Hints at Future DLCs, Awaiting Fan Feedback on the Roguelike

Edmund McMillen, the creative mind behind The Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy, is gearing up to introduce a new roguelike experience that promises to be just as addictive. This time, he’s diving into the quirky world of cat eugenics with a game aptly named Mewgenics. But the feline fun won’t stop at launch; there are plans for post-release content.

McMillen has confirmed, for the second time, that he and co-developer Tyler Glaiel, known for The End Is Nigh, are looking to expand Mewgenics after its release on February 10, 2026. In response to a fan inquiry on social media, McMillen stated, “Yes, we have had a DLC ideas tab for 2 years. I think we will have a few DLCs to make.”

He previously hinted at these DLC plans last month on Reddit, sharing that he intends to develop Mewgenics further after taking some time off to recharge and spend time with family. “Mewgenics DLC will 100% happen. We have had a growing DLC tab in our Google Doc for ages, all the stuff we knew we needed to avoid adding so the game could release,” he mentioned.

McMillen emphasized the importance of understanding player experiences, saying, “It’s vital as a designer to watch how YOU guys experience the game and try to lean [into] DLC to fit what people enjoy most and fill in any holes we missed.” He noted that while they plan to create DLC, they are still in the process of determining what fans truly want based on gameplay rather than just feedback.

Mewgenics has been a long-awaited project for the renowned developer. Initially announced nearly 14 years ago by Team Meat, the game faced a rocky development path that led to its cancellation before McMillen and Glaiel took the reins again in 2018.
