Mewgenics creator Edmund McMillen has confirmed that both a console port and DLC are on the way for the cat-breeding roguelike.
Mewgenics has already made waves as one of the standout games of 2026, boasting a massive player count on Steam that surpassed The Binding of Isaac’s peak and even overtook the roguelite juggernaut Hades 2. It’s also the highest-reviewed game of the year so far, recouping its budget in just three hours. Clearly, players are loving the chance to collect and breed cats to create the ultimate feline army.
However, with its current PC-only status, fans are eagerly asking when Mewgenics will make its way to the Switch or Switch 2 (and other consoles, though you can’t exactly play them in the litter box). Additionally, for those who might find themselves wanting more than the already impressive 200+ hours of gameplay (I’ve logged 110 hours and am only about 60% through), there’s curiosity about the DLC plans and whether it will follow a path similar to The Binding of Isaac, which started strong and expanded significantly.
After a week of persistent inquiries, McMillen took to Twitter to confirm that Mewgenics is indeed “coming to consoles” and that “there will be DLC,” along with updates on the soundtrack, merchandise, and bug fixes.
While no specific dates or details have been shared yet, McMillen clarified that any upcoming DLC will not be free, despite earlier mentions of some free content. It’s likely that any substantial expansions—similar to what we saw with The Binding of Isaac—will come at a cost, while smaller, fun additions (like costumes) might be offered for free.
For context, the Wrath of the Lamb expansion for the original Binding of Isaac launched about eight months after the game’s release, and the Afterbirth expansion for The Binding of Isaac Rebirth followed just under a year later. So, it’s reasonable to expect that Mewgenics might not see its first expansion for at least a year, if not longer, given the sheer scale of the base game.
And here’s a fun tidbit: Mewgenics features 200 Simpsons-inspired intros, and I can’t believe I didn’t catch that sooner—“There’s like 200 couch gags!”
