Microsoft Edge Unveils a New Design Inspired by Copilot Features
Microsoft is gearing up for a significant UI overhaul of its Edge browser. The company has begun integrating the design elements from Copilot into early Canary and Dev test versions of Edge.
The updates feature a settings section that mirrors the Copilot app, revamped context menus, and a refreshed new tab page. Reports indicate that Edge will adopt rounded corners and utilize the same color palette and fonts as the Copilot app.
Notably, this new UI isn’t exclusively linked to the Copilot Mode in Edge. Microsoft seems committed to embedding Copilot’s distinctive design language throughout Edge, which could lead to similar updates across its other web platforms and potentially within Windows itself in the future.
Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman mentioned last year that the goal for Edge is to enhance the existing browser rather than develop an entirely new AI-focused one. “There isn’t going to be a new browser; this is just going to be one experience,” Suleyman stated in an interview.
By integrating the Copilot design language more deeply into Edge, Microsoft aims to create a browser that feels more aligned with AI functionalities than it currently does. This new design approach is a departure from the Fluent design system that the company employs across many of its products. The Copilot design was revamped after a significant portion of the Inflection AI team joined Microsoft in 2024, closely resembling the Pi AI assistant that Inflection AI was developing.
