Microsoft Pulls the Plug on Counter-Strike 2’s Halo 3 Mod
In November, a modder known as Froddoyo unveiled Project Misriah, a creative endeavor that utilized Valve’s Counter-Strike 2 to bring the essence of Halo 3 to life. The mod quickly gained traction among fans, but it didn’t sit well with Microsoft. The company issued a takedown request to Valve, which promptly complied. Froddoyo described Project Misriah as “a workshop collection of Halo ported maps and assets that aims to bring a Halo 3 multiplayer-like experience to Counter-Strike 2.” The mod featured character models, maps, gameplay mechanics, and sound effects directly taken from Halo 3, likely prompting Microsoft’s intervention. Froddoyo shared the news of the takedown on X, expressing, “It was fun while it lasted. Make sure to give your thanks to Microsoft!”
In a follow-up comment on the trailer’s YouTube page, Froddoyo expressed gratitude to players for their support but confirmed that the mod would not be re-uploaded. However, he remained optimistic, stating, “We will use the knowledge and skills obtained from this to cook up something else!” As for Microsoft’s future plans, it’s uncertain whether they will revisit Halo 3 or any other classic titles in the franchise beyond the original. The first game, Halo: Combat Evolved, is set to receive a modern remake titled Halo: Campaign Evolved, celebrating the franchise’s 25th anniversary and launching on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 in 2026. There are also rumors of other unannounced Halo projects in development, but details on what Halo Studios will release after Campaign Evolved remain unclear.
