Miles Morales Voice Actor Discusses the Absence of the Venom Game

For a long time, a standalone Venom game seemed like a natural move for Insomniac Games. In Spider-Man 2, players can take control of Venom in a dedicated level, and the studio has shown it’s open to releasing smaller spin-offs between major Spider-Man titles. Despite some details about the project leaking from a hack of Insomniac’s files in late 2023, a Venom game has yet to be released. Nadji Jeter, who voices Miles Morales, recently shed some light on the situation in an interview.

“Let me give you an exclusive,” Jeter shared with content creators. “We were set to launch a Venom game along with a Venom DLC, but we lost Tony Todd…” He added, “They showed me how it was going to start and everything. It was going to be a Venom video game. You all played the Venom playthrough? It was just going to be a Venom video game.”

However, Jason Schreier offered a different perspective on Jeter’s comments in a post on a forum. “This isn’t true,” he stated regarding the actor’s explanation of the project’s cancellation. It’s unclear whether Schreier was suggesting that the standalone Venom game is still in the works or if he was disputing the reasons for its cancellation, but it seems likely he’s leaning towards the former.

This speculation is fueled by the hack that revealed Insomniac had been developing the standalone Venom game for a significant period before Todd’s passing. The leaked information even included a tentative roadmap indicating a potential release in 2025.

Now, as we find ourselves in 2026, there’s still no new Spider-Man project on the horizon while Insomniac gears up to launch Marvel’s Wolverine this September. Nonetheless, a leaked presentation from the same hack hinted that a standalone Venom game could serve to “bridge” the gap between Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. The economic rationale for the game was that it would allow Insomniac to release another title sooner, before development costs escalate for the next main installment in the series.

It’s tough to believe Insomniac won’t revisit Venom at some point, even without Tony Todd’s involvement. However, the studio appears to be busy with a variety of other projects. According to previous leaks, these include not only Spider-Man 3 but also a new Ratchet and Clank game and plans for a full-fledged X-Men game.
