Milo Yiannopoulos Detained by ICE for Deportation
Earlier today, it was reported that right-wing figure Milo Yiannopoulos has been detained by ICE at a holding center in Louisiana. The Department of Homeland Security later confirmed his arrest, labeling him an “illegal alien” facing deportation for “violating our nation’s laws.”
Officials stated that Yiannopoulos was taken into custody on August 27 at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. According to the Department of Homeland Security, he legally entered the U.S. on May 14, 2019, through New York City but overstayed his visa. “Yiannopoulos was issued a final order of removal by an Immigration Judge on July 22, after failing to appear for his immigration hearing. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal,” the statement explained.
The announcement also mentioned, “Being in detention is a choice. We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.”
Yiannopoulos was reportedly in Louisiana for an upcoming concert by Ye, with whom he has been associated during the rapper’s controversial statements. Previously, Yiannopoulos supported Trump’s election and called for ICE crackdowns in June 2025, advocating for checkpoints across California. He tweeted, “California needs ICE checkpoints at supermarket entrances, gas stations, strip malls, intersections and government buildings, with on the spot deportation for anyone who can’t prove they are in the US legally.”
The creator of the game *Papers, Please*, Lucas Pope, reflected on the ongoing relevance of his work, stating, “It blows my mind that it’s only becoming more and more relevant over time. Honestly, it’s a tragedy.”
Yiannopoulos was a key figure in the Gamergate movement in 2014, where he popularized the hashtag and its attacks on feminism while writing for a major outlet. His editor at the time, who later became a close advisor to Trump, noted that Yiannopoulos was instrumental in mobilizing young reactionaries online, stating, “You can activate that army. They come in through Gamergate or whatever and then get turned onto politics and Trump.”
Now, the repercussions of that mobilization have caught up with Yiannopoulos.
