Yacht Club Games, the team behind Shovel Knight, is gearing up for the release of their new Game Boy-style Soulslike and Metroidvania hybrid, Mina the Hollower, which they claim will surpass the combined scale of all games in the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove collection.

After over six years in development, anticipation has been building since its successful Kickstarter campaign in early 2022. Initially set to launch on October 31, 2025, the release was postponed indefinitely just before its debut.

During the recent PlayStation State of Play, a new release window for spring 2026 was revealed, along with a PlayStation-exclusive demo. Following this announcement, Yacht Club Games shared more insights about the game, stating, “the end is now in sight.”

In a post on Bluesky, the studio expressed, “after more than 6 years of work, we are in the final stretch. Mina is our most ambitious game ever. Its massive, densely interconnected world spans dozens of distinct regions and contains more total screens than the entirety of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.”

A press release from the studio elaborated that players will encounter over 25 bosses and mini-bosses, uncover 60 Trinkets, enhance their weapons, progress through a comprehensive level-up system, explore New Game Plus, and experiment with hundreds of gameplay modifiers. The extensive scope and complexity of the game have contributed to the time taken to reach its final polish, but the finish line is now in sight.

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is a compilation of five games centered around the original campaign, Shovel of Hope. It features three additional 2D platforming adventures that are comparable in length to or longer than Shovel Knight’s story, showcasing other knights. The final entry, King of Cards, even includes a full deck-building mechanic within the platformer. The last title in the Treasure Trove is Shovel Knight Showdown, a fighting game reminiscent of Super Smash Bros.

The fact that Mina the Hollower is larger than all five of these titles combined sheds light on the lengthy development process before this new rodent hero can finally make her debut.
