Mina The Hollower Sets New Release Date with Unbeatable Price Tag
Mina the Hollower was initially set to launch last October, but it faced a last-minute delay as Yacht Club Games dedicated extra effort to ensure this retro blend of Castlevania and Link’s Awakening meets high expectations. Now, it’s back with a release date just around the corner, and my excitement is at an all-time high.
Mark your calendars for May 29, when Mina the Hollower will hit consoles and PC for just $20. This price point has become the unofficial ceiling for 2D indie action games, especially after the launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong last fall, which surprised fans with its affordability. Other recent titles, like March’s Scott Pilgrim EX, have struggled to find traction at higher prices, despite being solid games.
While I usually steer clear of analyzing the business side of indie game launches, Yacht Club is a studio I genuinely want to see thrive, and Mina the Hollower is a title I’m eager to support.
The studio’s founder, Sean Velasco, mentioned the stakes in a recent interview, stating, “It’s make-or-break for sure. If we sold 500,000 copies, then we would be golden. If we sold even 200,000, that would be really great. If we sold, like, 100,000, that’s not so good.”
I had the chance to demo the game at PAX West last September, and it felt promising. However, in today’s gaming landscape, anything less than outstanding can be a gamble. Even exceptional titles don’t always achieve the recognition they deserve. Shovel Knight was a standout when it debuted in 2014, but the competition in 2026 is fiercer than ever.
Fortunately, it seems like Mina the Hollower is launching at the perfect time to take advantage of the post-spring lull and the nostalgic vibes of summer, reminiscent of classic adventures that would fit right in on the Game Boy Advance.
