Modern Warfare 4 beta to feature a single-player campaign mission.

With the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 just around the corner, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has shared some exciting news: the upcoming betas will feature an unexpected element—single-player content.

Both playtests for Modern Warfare 4 will include the campaign mission “Entrenched,” alongside the usual multiplayer offerings. The second playtest will also introduce the Warzone mode, featuring the Resurgence Zodiac map. This marks the first time a Call of Duty beta will encompass campaign, standard multiplayer, and Warzone all in one.

Additional details were shared on the official Call of Duty social media. On August 21, the Call of Duty Next event will showcase gameplay streams and offer beta code giveaways. The early access beta will run from August 21 to August 25, exclusively for those who pre-order Modern Warfare 4. This beta will include the campaign mission and six multiplayer maps playable across nine modes, available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam and Battle.net), and Xbox Series X.

The second weekend will feature an open beta from August 28 to September 1, which will add Warzone and the 32v32 Ground War mode, among other features. This test will be accessible on the previously mentioned platforms, as well as the Nintendo Switch 2.

It appears that Microsoft is fully committed to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, especially following the lukewarm reception of the previous title, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which faced harsh reviews and recorded the series’ lowest sales since 2008. In contrast, Battlefield 6 managed to surpass the series with 30 million units sold.

The latest installment was announced earlier this year and centers around a conflict between North and South Korea. Developers have indicated they aim to address player feedback regarding movement mechanics from Modern Warfare 3. With Microsoft’s gaming division currently facing challenges, including layoffs of over 3,000 employees, there’s a lot riding on the success of Modern Warfare 4.
