Modern Warfare 4 Launches in October, Arriving on Switch 2
Activision has officially revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, set to launch on October 23, 2026. Developed by Infinity Ward, this installment will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, marking the franchise’s debut on the Nintendo Switch 2, thanks to a 10-year agreement between Microsoft and Nintendo related to the Activision Blizzard acquisition.
Importantly, Modern Warfare 4 will not be released on PS4 or Xbox One. These last-gen consoles have seen Call of Duty titles since 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts, but Activision is finally moving forward.
Here’s the game’s premise:
> War erupts on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion that threatens global stability in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. A young squad of South Korean soldiers struggles to survive on the crumbling front lines, while a vengeful Captain Price conducts a personal war from the shadows, staying one step ahead of his pursuers. As Price’s covert mission intersects with the forces behind the invasion, the conflict spirals out of control.
Activision emphasizes that Modern Warfare 4 is “built natively for current-generation consoles and PC,” promising “greater scale, density, responsiveness, and consistency across every mode.” For PC gamers, the game will feature “PC-specific performance optimizations,” various options for upscaling and frame generation, and “extended graphics options.”
Additionally, Call of Duty: Warzone is being phased out on PS4 and Xbox One. Starting June 4, new downloads of the game on these platforms will be disabled, and the in-game store will be removed on June 25. Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One will become unplayable with the launch of Season 1 for Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone, which will begin shortly after the October 23 release.
