Modern Warfare 4 Set to Launch on Switch 2, Ending 13-Year Absence from Nintendo Consoles
Call of Duty is making its long-awaited return to a Nintendo platform. Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch simultaneously on Switch 2 this fall, alongside its releases for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, breaking a 13-year streak where the iconic military shooter franchise bypassed Nintendo’s hardware.
Activision has announced that Infinity Ward, in collaboration with Digital Legends, is developing Modern Warfare 4 specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2. While further details are still under wraps, this indicates that players can expect some degree of feature parity between the Switch 2 version and its counterparts, even if the game won’t achieve the same framerates and resolutions on Nintendo’s console.
Digital Legends Entertainment, a mobile game developer acquired by Activision in 2021, contributed to the creation of 2024’s Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile and supported last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
The last Call of Duty title to grace a Nintendo console was 2013’s Ghosts on the Wii U. Following its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023, Microsoft struck a 10-year deal with Nintendo to bring the popular shooter series to its platforms. Nearly three years later, Switch 2 players will finally reap the benefits of that agreement. Additionally, 2026 will mark the first time in over a decade that a new Call of Duty title won’t be released for PS4 and Xbox One.
