Monster Hunter Wilds producer Ryozo Tsujimoto has confirmed that the monster-slaying RPG will indeed receive an expansion, though a full announcement won’t come until summer.
Since the franchise’s inception, expansions have been a staple, typically introducing Master Rank (or G Rank) content. These expansions were often seen in re-releases like Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (for Monster Hunter 2) or the “Ultimate” editions of Monster Hunter 3 and 4. However, with Monster Hunter World, expansions became the norm, as seen with Iceborne and Rise’s Sunbreak, both launching just a year after their initial releases.
So, it was never a question of if Monster Hunter Wilds would get an expansion, but rather when. While many anticipated a flashy trailer at this week’s PlayStation State of Play, the confirmation came in a surprisingly understated manner.
In the Monster Hunter Wilds 1st Anniversary Message video on YouTube, Tsujimoto stated, “We are currently at work on a large-scale expansion – similar to Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak – for Monster Hunter Wilds.” Although there was no grand trailer or monster reveals, Tsujimoto mentioned, “we plan to share more information with you this summer,” likely hinting at a reveal during the Summer Game Fest or PlayStation Showcase in June.
While this was expected, the low-key nature of the announcement caught me off guard. Sunbreak was unveiled with a big, flashy trailer during a Nintendo Direct. However, given the challenges Wilds faced, it wouldn’t be surprising if the expansion is slightly delayed as Capcom works to improve the game. With the latest patch finally enhancing the PC version, it seems like a good time to celebrate the progress made.
Monster Hunter Wilds Steam reviews are improving following Capcom’s latest performance patch.
