Monster Hunter Wilds Eliminates a Disliked Feature

Capcom has been riding a wave of success lately, but one of its more frustrating habits has been the inclusion of odd microtransactions in titles like Monster Hunter and Dragon’s Dogma. Fortunately, the company is reversing at least one of these controversial practices. Players in Monster Hunter Wilds will soon have the freedom to modify their hunter and Palico’s appearance as often as they wish, completely free of charge, eliminating the need for Character Edit Vouchers.

Initially, after setting up your hunter and Palico’s appearance at the game’s start, any further adjustments required a Character Edit Voucher. Capcom had been selling these vouchers in packs—three for $6.99, a separate three-pack for Palico edits at the same price, or a combined bundle for $9.99. While there were occasional giveaways of free vouchers, the monetization of this feature felt excessive.

Now, Capcom is finally making a positive change. With the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance in 2027, players will be able to edit their characters and Palicos without any cost. Until then, the vouchers will be taken off the market on December 3, 2026, and all players will receive 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers for free. Additionally, those who previously bought any voucher packs will receive a Special Thank-You Pendant Set, which includes the Heavenly Hog and Beezleboar.

These vouchers were not well-received when Monster Hunter Wilds debuted last year, and this shift seems aimed at generating excitement for the upcoming expansion, Ascendance. Another factor may be that Wilds was outperformed by the older Monster Hunter Rise during Capcom’s Q2 2025. Following the announcement of the voucher changes, Capcom also unveiled new quality-of-life improvements, such as the ability to quickly swap weapons without needing to mount your Seikret, an upgraded Monster Field Guide that reveals numerical values for enemy weak points, and the option to create more detailed loadouts.

Ascendance will bring a new region and fresh monsters, along with the Boosted Action mechanic, allowing players to unleash enhanced moves after filling up a meter. While the exact release date for Ascendance remains under wraps, it seems likely to arrive earlier in the year, especially considering the wealth of information Capcom has already shared.

Capcom is drawing inspiration from the best elements of Devil May Cry to breathe new life into Monster Hunter Wilds.
