Monster Hunter Wilds’ latest update disappoints fans with only a slight performance increase of 5-8 FPS.
Capcom has rolled out comparison videos highlighting the new PC performance updates for Monster Hunter Wilds, but some players feel the improvements don’t quite justify the lengthy 10-month wait.
In an alternate reality, Monster Hunter Wilds might have been a strong contender at The Game Awards last week. However, the game has struggled significantly this year due to major performance and technical issues, particularly on PC. This has allowed 2021’s Monster Hunter Rise to outsell it since April. While Capcom is committed to addressing these issues with a three-step update plan set to release through February, the year-long wait for a solid PC experience is a concern for many.
The first update dropped today, accompanied by two videos that compare the performance between Title Update 3 and Title Update 4—one focusing on Nvidia/Intel and the other on AMD/Radeon. Both videos showcase the game running at upscaled 1080p on “Medium” settings, with frame generation turned off. The Title Update 4 clips reveal a modest increase in framerate, around five to six frames, and while the visuals appear slightly sharper, the difference isn’t striking.
On ResetEra, reactions are mixed. Some players express satisfaction with the changes, with one stating, “Those look like significant improvements.” However, the overall mood leans toward disappointment. One user remarked, “After 9 months of the game being a mess, Capcom is finally giving us…an average of 5-8 FPS boost—how generous of them.” Another player has lost faith in Wilds’ potential for a turnaround, commenting, “You would have to literally remake the game to fix its performance issues; they are part of its foundation. Capcom has gone from a day-one purchase to a wait-for-sale or outright avoid with the recent PC port performance.”
Despite the setbacks, I remain hopeful that the upcoming G-Rank expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds—expected later this year based on previous patterns—will address these issues and elevate the game to its intended greatness. It’s a fantastic title, even with its performance hiccups and lack of challenge. If Capcom can successfully optimize open-world performance with the RE Engine, it would bode well for future titles.
Capcom has also cautioned that Monster Hunter Wilds mods “are not guaranteed to work and could cause compatibility issues” ahead of the update.
