Most of Bethesda’s Team is Focused on The Elder Scrolls 6, Though Other Projects May Intersect
In January 2026, it will have been seven and a half years since the teaser for The Elder Scrolls 6 was first revealed. During this time, Bethesda has shared very little information, and fans are still waiting for a trailer. Recently, Todd Howard from Bethesda mentioned that a significant portion of the team is focused on The Elder Scrolls 6. “It’s progressing really well,” Howard stated. “The majority of the studio’s on [Elder Scrolls 6]. But I’ll say this: We always overlap. So, we’re very used to overlapping development. We have long pre-productions on things to ensure we feel good about them. It’s a process. We all wish it went a little bit faster—or a lot faster—but we want to get it right.” While the initial announcement was made years ago, it’s likely that serious development on The Elder Scrolls didn’t pick up until after the release of Starfield in 2023. Fans are so eager for updates that they’re analyzing the Skyrim Switch 2 announcement trailer for potential clues about the release window for Elder Scrolls 6. Just last month, Howard mentioned that The Elder Scrolls 6 is “still a long way off” and expressed some regret about announcing the sequel when he did. Earlier this year, Bethesda collaborated with Make-A-Wish for a charity auction to create a creature for Elder Scrolls 6. Howard also hinted at the possibility of an Elder Scrolls TV series, similar to the popular Fallout show on Prime Video, but he emphasized that he’s “willing to say ‘no’ for a decade” rather than rush into it.
