Multiple Departments and Long-Time Hosts Affected by Recent Layoffs

The Summer of Gaming has turned into a season of layoffs for a prominent video game website. Reports indicate that the site is letting go of several key team members, including well-known video hosts Seth Macy and Brian Altano.

Altano has been with the site since 2009 and has been a key figure on its popular PlayStation podcast, which has continued since the departures of notable hosts over a decade ago. Macy served as a senior editor on the commerce team and was a regular voice on the well-loved Nintendo Voice Chat podcast.

Details surrounding the layoffs remain unclear, but they appear to affect various departments within the organization. Factors such as employees’ remote work status and their willingness to relocate may have played a role in the decisions.

This latest wave of job cuts follows a previous round that occurred shortly after the site’s annual LA event for Summer Game Fest. It seems there’s a pattern of layoffs occurring right after major events, as noted by a member of the IGN Creators Guild.

Earlier this summer, the site also conducted its annual coverage of San Diego Comic-Con, featuring interviews led by Altano and others. The site’s parent company, which acquired several other gaming websites in 2024, has been implementing periodic editorial cuts since then. The previous publisher left the company over a year ago and has not been replaced.
