My top two color e-book readers are now at their lowest prices in months.

Color may not be a must-have for e-readers, but let’s face it, having that vibrant display can really enhance your experience with digital books, magazines, comics, and cookbooks. The downside? Color e-readers usually come with a heftier price tag, which is why the current deals are so appealing. Right now, the Kindle Colorsoft (16GB) and Kobo Libra Colour are both at their lowest prices ever, with the Kindle priced at $169.99 (a $80 discount) and the Libra Colour available for $199.99 (a $30 discount).

Both devices feature impressive 7-inch, 300ppi E Ink displays, though the resolution drops to 150ppi when displaying color. The Colorsoft tends to have a slightly more vibrant display, but the difference is minimal. They both boast IPX8 water resistance, so you can read without worry near water, whether in the bath or by the pool.

Choosing between them largely depends on your book-buying habits, storage needs, and whether you like to jot down notes. The Colorsoft is ideal for those deeply integrated into Amazon’s ecosystem, as purchasing and accessing Kindle books is seamless and doesn’t require any sideloading. As the more budget-friendly option in Amazon’s lineup, the standard Colorsoft offers a reading experience nearly identical to the Signature Edition, plus it supports Amazon’s “Send to Alexa Plus” feature for sending notes or documents to the AI assistant for summaries and reminders. However, it lacks wireless charging and an auto-adjusting front light, which are features of the higher-end model, and it comes with 16GB of storage instead of 32GB.

On the other hand, if I weren’t already invested in Kindle books, I’d lean towards the Libra Colour. It offers double the storage at 32GB and has handy physical page-turn buttons. You can take notes while reading thanks to stylus support, and it includes built-in notebook templates along with handwriting-to-text conversion. The Libra Colour also supports EPUB and a broader range of file formats, allowing you to save articles for offline reading with Instapaper. Plus, it features adjustable warm lighting, making nighttime reading easier on the eyes.
