Naughty Dog announces exciting new intergalactic achievement ahead of State of Play event.
Naughty Dog, the studio behind iconic titles like The Last of Us and Uncharted, is deep into the development of its upcoming sci-fi adventure, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Recently, they announced a significant milestone: the completion of the cinematic shoot for the game. This wraps up a crucial phase in the development of this PlayStation 5 exclusive, giving us a clearer picture of when we might see it hit the shelves.
In a post on social media, Naughty Dog shared, “That is a wrap on the very ambitious Intergalactic cinematic shoot! This cast killed it! Cannot wait to show you their incredible work when the time is right!” Accompanying the announcement was a photo of Tati Gabrielle, one of the stars, in a performance capture suit and holding a prop gun, though details about the game remain sparse.
Looking back at Naughty Dog’s history, we can draw some conclusions about what this milestone might mean for the release timeline. For instance, when Neil Druckmann announced the completion of performance capture for The Last of Us Part 2 in April 2019, the game eventually launched in June 2020 after a couple of delays. Initially set for a February 2020 release, Druckmann noted that the team needed more time to ensure the game met their high standards.
If Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet follows a similar trajectory, we could see it released sometime next summer, likely between June and August. While Naughty Dog hasn’t confirmed a specific release date, indications suggest a mid-2027 window.
Interestingly, the timing of this update coincides with an announcement of a new State of Play showcase. This raises the possibility that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet could make an appearance, giving fans a fresh look at the game ahead of the Tokyo Game Show 2026. It’s been a while since we’ve had a substantial update, with the last official news coming in March 2025.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was first revealed in December 2024 during The Game Awards. Set thousands of years in the future, players will take on the role of Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter stranded on the planet Sempiria, a place from which no one has escaped in over 600 years. Development has been ongoing since 2020, and the game’s soundtrack is being crafted by Oscar-winning musicians Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
