Neil Newbon, the voice of Astarion, wraps up his two-year journey with Baldur’s Gate 3, hailing the RPG as “perfect” and suggesting it may be unmatched for a long time.
Neil Newbon, the voice behind Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3, has wrapped up an epic two-year journey through the game, and unsurprisingly, he loved every moment of it.
While it’s hard to find new praise for Baldur’s Gate 3, given its sweeping accolades at major gaming award shows in 2023 and its dominance on numerous Game of the Year lists, Newbon’s insights as a long-time contributor since 2019 add a fresh layer.
As the credits rolled on what seems to be his first complete run of the Baldur’s Gate 3 campaign, Newbon expressed, “There won’t be another game like this either ever, or for a very, very, very long time. There’s a lot of things that went right initially to make this game possible … Hell of an adventure, folks. Hell of an adventure. Yeah, one of my all-time favorite greatest games ever.” He further described it as “a perfect game” in hindsight.
Newbon’s playthrough, which spanned 126 parts, featured him as a half-elf druid named Bow’ee, alongside his friend and horror writer Tom de Ville. They both concluded that starting a new save file wouldn’t happen anytime soon, as they discovered Baldur’s Gate 3 is “a two-year game.” However, Newbon mentioned he plans to dive into the vast array of mods available online during his free time. After a moment’s reflection, he mused that another run with “the stupidest mods we could find” would be “fun,” and I can’t help but agree that sounds like a blast, despite the potential drain on his free time.
Interestingly, the aspect I craved more of in Baldur’s Gate 3 is something Larian aims to enhance in their next title: “More interaction between companions.”
