Netflix announces the release date for the second stage of Steel Ball Run.

One of the standout anime from the past spring season was Steel Ball Run, the seventh installment of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, crafted by Hiroiko Araki. After a captivating two-episode launch, the series went quiet, prompting fans to demand updates, which led to Netflix announcing that Steel Ball Run would be back this fall with its second stage and a weekly release format.

Thanks to an announcement at Anime Expo 2026, we now know that Steel Ball Run will return with new episodes on September 25. This second cour, referred to as the second stage to align with the stops in the cross-country race the characters are participating in, will consist of 11 episodes.

Produced by the experienced team at David Productions, the Steel Ball Run anime successfully captures the unique style and atmosphere of Araki’s manga, even though some dialogue has been streamlined and certain scenes omitted to enhance the premiere’s energy and pacing. Set in the United States during the 1890s, Steel Ball Run marks the first entry in the franchise to exist in a different continuity while still referencing familiar characters from JoJo’s history.

The story follows Johnny Joestar, a paraplegic former jockey, and the enigmatic Gyro Zeppeli, who wields a supernatural technique known as the Spin (a nod to Hamon from the earlier parts). They enter the Steel Ball Run, a horse race spanning the American continent with a grand prize of $50 million. Along the way, they uncover a deadly conspiracy and encounter the series’ signature supernatural elements, including Stands.

The decision to release Steel Ball Run’s premiere without a clear follow-up was puzzling, and it felt like a misstep on Netflix’s part. However, all’s well that ends well, and JoJo fans can now eagerly anticipate the series’ full return.
