Netflix Expands into Party Games with Acquisition of Avatar Company

As Netflix ramps up its gaming ambitions, including a fresh lineup of party games, it’s set to enhance player experiences by introducing customizable avatars. This move comes with the acquisition of Ready Player Me, a company known for its innovative cross-game avatar technology, which will allow gamers to maintain their identities and fandom across various titles, as noted by Ready Player Me’s CEO, Timmu Tõke.

While Netflix hasn’t provided a timeline for the avatar rollout or specified which games will feature them first, the details of the acquisition remain under wraps. The Ready Player Me team, consisting of around 20 members, will be joining Netflix, but their existing services, utilized by numerous developers for cross-platform avatars, will cease on January 31, 2026.

Tõke expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “Our vision has always been to enable avatars and identities to travel across many games and virtual worlds. We’ve been on an independent path to make that vision a reality for a long time. I’m now very excited for the Ready Player Me team to join Netflix to scale our tech and expertise to a global audience and contribute to the exciting vision Netflix has for gaming.”
