Netflix is Developing a Live-Action Persona Series with Deadpool’s Director and a Star Trek: Picard Writer
You know how every Persona game wraps up with a god, full of arrogance, declaring that humanity craves destruction and wants to drift into eternal darkness? It feels like we’re in a similar situation now, as Netflix has set its sights on Atlus’ supernatural teen life sim RPG for its next live-action adaptation, while die-hard Persona fans are collectively shouting, “No, please don’t!”
On June 29, it was reported that Netflix is in the works of developing a live-action series based on the Persona franchise. The details are still under wraps, with no word on which game or characters will be featured, or if it will introduce a brand-new story within the same universe. Earlier this month, Atlus dropped hints about the next installment, Persona 6.
Christopher Monfette is said to be on board as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the series. He has previously worked on shows like 9-1-1 for Fox and ABC, as well as Star Trek: Picard for Paramount.
Netflix has reportedly chosen not to comment on the development of the Persona series.
Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood will also serve as executive producers through 21 Laps, a company that recently produced the hit film Backrooms. Levy is known for directing Deadpool and Wolverine, with his next project being Star Wars: Starfighter. Additionally, Story Kitchen is involved in the Persona series, a studio that is also working on other adaptations, including a live-action project for Split Flition.
While the live-action Persona series is still in its early development stages, there’s a chance it could fall through, which many fans might secretly hope for right now…
If it does move forward, it will join the ranks of other Netflix adaptations of video games, such as The Witcher, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which is set to return for a highly anticipated second season later this year.
