Netflix secures $500 million deal for exclusive streaming rights to The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead will keep its undead presence on Netflix for at least another five years. Recently, Netflix and AMC struck a multi-year agreement to ensure that all 177 episodes of the iconic series remain available for streaming, while also expanding its reach to new regions like the U.K., Italy, Australia, and New Zealand. This deal is reportedly valued at $500 million, giving fans a glimpse into where their subscription fees are being allocated.
In addition to the main series, Netflix has secured streaming rights for several spinoffs, including Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead: Dead City, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and Tales of The Walking Dead, all set to hit the platform globally starting in 2027. In total, Netflix will host 371 episodes from the Walking Dead franchise.
As part of this agreement, The Walking Dead will also be available on AMC Plus, AMC’s own streaming service. The series has been exclusively streaming on Netflix in the U.S. since 2011.
The original The Walking Dead debuted on AMC on October 31, 2010, and spanned 177 episodes over 11 seasons. The first spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead, launched on August 23, 2015, and ran for eight seasons. AMC is currently working on two more shows within the universe, The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, with the latter set to wrap up with a fourth and final season in 2027.
“Audiences have discovered and loved The Walking Dead on Netflix for nearly 15 years, and the show continues to attract new fans,” said a Netflix licensing executive. “We’re excited to partner with AMC Global Media to expand access to more audiences worldwide and bring the entire Walking Dead Universe to Netflix.”
“We’re thrilled to enhance our long-standing partnership with Netflix around The Walking Dead,” stated the CEO of AMC Global Media. “This deal creates a global hub for this universe—every show, every episode—making the franchise more accessible than ever to fans everywhere. Additionally, the co-exclusive agreement allows us to bring the original series to AMC+ for the first time early next year. Netflix has played a crucial role in making The Walking Dead one of the most successful franchises in entertainment history. This agreement is a fantastic outcome for our companies, the fans, and this timeless IP.”
