Netflix Unveils New Animated Sensation, Surpassing K-Pop Demon Hunters
KPop Demon Hunters has finally slipped out of the top 10 movies on Netflix in the U.S. for the first time in 46 weeks as of May 10, making way for a new animated sensation. The film Swapped, produced by Skydance Animation and Netflix, has made waves with an impressive 38.7 million views in its debut week, including 15.5 million over its opening weekend. It’s now leading the charts for both U.S. viewership and English-language global rankings.
Swapped tells the story of Ollie (voiced by Michael B. Jordan), a small creature known as a pookoo, who finds himself body-swapped with Ivy (Juno Temple), a fierce bird that hunts pookoo. As they embark on a quest to reverse the swap by locating a magical seed pod, they begin to challenge the longstanding rivalry between their species and envision a future where collaboration could lead to a better life.
This charming and visually stunning film premiered on May 1 and quickly climbed to the number two spot on the English film list, marking the largest opening for an animated feature since 2023’s Adam Sandler musical, Leo. Swapped has since shattered Netflix’s record for the most views of an animated film in a single week.
While KPop Demon Hunters didn’t make an immediate splash upon its release in 2025, its infectious songs, heartfelt moments, and thrilling action have given it impressive longevity. It remains a fixture in Netflix’s top 10 English-language movies for global audiences, and a sequel is already in the works. Families who learned the lyrics to “Golden” are likely among those who have also tuned into Netflix’s latest animated adventure, suggesting that the platform will continue to invest in films like Swapped to rival the classics available on Disney Plus. Additionally, Netflix has seen significant success with older titles like Home, a 2015 sci-fi film from DreamWorks Animation, which has been a top 10 English-language film globally for the past 11 weeks.
