Netflix’s One Piece Anime Sets Release Date, But Fans Face Some Disappointing News
Netflix has officially announced the release month for the highly anticipated anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s iconic manga, One Piece. Titled The One Piece and crafted by Wit Studio, known for hits like Spy x Family and the early seasons of Attack on Titan, this new series will premiere on Netflix in February 2027.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting this update since the anime was first revealed in 2023, with little news trickling out since then. Earlier this year, a glimpse of character sketches was shared, but now we have a release month and a teaser poster featuring a young Luffy in Windmill Village, where he spent his days trying to persuade Shanks to let him join his pirate crew.
The One Piece will reimagine the East Blue Arc from the manga, utilizing modern animation techniques to appeal to today’s anime enthusiasts. While the original One Piece anime is still ongoing and notorious for its filler episodes and lower production quality in its early seasons, recent installments have impressed with their stunning animation and artistic flair. This sets a high standard for The One Piece to meet.
According to Netflix, the first season will adapt around the first 50 chapters of the manga, spanning seven episodes that lead up to Luffy’s meeting with Sanji. While some fans might be disappointed by the limited number of episodes after such a long wait, there’s a silver lining: each episode will run for over 40 minutes, totaling around 300 minutes for the season—almost double the length of episodes from the original series.
Masashi Koizuka, known for his work on Attack on Titan and Moonrise, will direct The One Piece, with Hideaki Abe from My Hero Academia: Two Heroes serving as assistant director. Key animation directors and character designers include Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda.
The One Piece will be available exclusively on Netflix in February 2027, with all seven episodes dropping at once.
