Netflix’s upcoming action film features Reacher taking on a Metal Gear.

Get ready for an adrenaline-fueled ride as Netflix’s latest action flick, directed by Patrick Hughes, plunges an elite squad of soldiers into a jungle reminiscent of classic Predator vibes. They’re being hunted by a menacing mechanical beast that channels the essence of a Terminator, sporting a design that screams Metal Gear. Count me in! The lead character, our version of Solid Snake (or Naked Snake for the hardcore fans), is played by none other than Alan Ritchson, known for his role as Jack Reacher.

The trailer kicks off with all the iconic elements of Metal Gear: a soldier awakening beneath overcast skies, surrounded by tall grass, and the familiar sight of our hero’s back. We also see a scene where fellow soldiers engage in close-quarters combat training. Ritchson’s character is at a boot camp, eager to join the U.S. Army Rangers. However, during the final selection phase, their training exercise takes a deadly turn. Deep in the jungle, they inadvertently activate a destructive foreign machine, transforming their mock exam into a desperate fight for survival.

This towering mechanical menace is equipped with lasers and bullets, and it can detect organic life with a buzzing blue beam. Stranded without communication, flares, or weapons, Ritchson and his team will need to channel their inner MacGyver to escape this nightmare.

While it shares a name with Netflix’s 2017 original film, War Machine looks genuinely thrilling. Hughes has proven his action chops with films like The Expendables 3 and The Hitman’s Bodyguard. Beyond the Metal Gear references, this film seems to blend elements from some of the greatest sci-fi action movies ever made, and if you think the titular machine resembles ED-209 from the original RoboCop, you’re not alone.

Mark your calendars—War Machine is set to hit Netflix on March 6.
